what is the difference between composition and decomposition can you use them to find area?

i need help pls thnx!!

Composition: the way in which a whole or mixture is made up. ( otherwise Mathematical formula) 
Decomposition: 
Decomposing numbers means that you're just showing the place value of a given term. ( 286 can be decomposed to be 200 + 80 + 6 = 286)
I don't think they can be used to find area but i'm not sure.
