A human somatic cell usually contains twenty-three pairs of chromosomes. Only one of these pairs will be a pair of sex chromosomes.  The genetic composition of a male child is twenty-two pairs of autosomes- any chromosome that is not involved in sex determination - and one pair of sex chromosome (XY).
